Mother’s Day Events

With Mother’s Day just a few weeks away, a lot of people are looking for ideas on how to make things special this year for their Moms.

Many times, the most interesting, meaningful, and cost effective Mother’s Day events are hosted by local organizations in the community, like churches, schools, etc.

Here is a list of 3 awesome events, that are creative and fun ways for you and your Mom to enjoy the Second Sunday in May.

Not part of any organization in your community? You could still offer to volunteer to coordinate an event or activity. Who knows? You may find that you enjoy being involved in the organization that you choose to work with!

1. Moms on the Run…for Charity- Coordinate a 5K run with your local high school Track Team and spend Mother’s Day morning on the run with Mom for a good cause. You can donate the funds to the group of your choice (since Mother’s Day has roots in the women’s lib. movement, you may want to donate to Breast Cancer Research or Sexual Assault Awareness organizations). Include a grand lunch at the end of the run and don’t forget to have someone hand out beautiful roses to each Mom as they cross the finish line. This event not only gives the gift of healthy living, but also allows you to spend time in the months ahead training for your 5K run with Mom…and after all, spending quality time is what Moms are all about.

2. Mother’s Day Picnic- Get together with you local church or school to host an extra special Mother’s Day Picnic. For this to stand out from bland, traditional picnics, go with a fun theme, like Old Time Southern Style Picnic, serving Sweet Tea, Fried Chicken, Biscuts, and Peach Cobbler- Have a local bluegrass band play foot stomping country so Moms can dance up a storm. Hand out Corsages made of an interesting flower, like Asiatic Lilies to really create a unique and fun Mother’s Day experience.

3. Day of Pampering- Connect with local spas and salons to come up with an all inclusive Gift Certificate that entitles Mom to one fabulous service at each place. This is much more fun than sitting in the same Spa all day, and is a fun surprise for Mom each time she goes into a different venue and receives a fun service only offered for carriers of the Gift Certificate. Finish up at an exclusive resturant for a Mother’s Day that Mom will never forget- amp up the impression by having 50 Gorgeous Tulips waiting at the brunch table when Mom arrives.

6 Fun Ways to Spice up your Seder

It’s Passover time again, and lots of people are looking for ways to make their Seder memorable.

Enjoy a fun and meaningful Seder this year with unique games and interesting activities.  120 Stunning Peruvian Lilies

Here are 6 imaginative ways to spice up your Seder this year:

Grab Bag Story Game-Collect items from around the house. Anything can work; like stuffed animals, colored water, shampoo, etc.  The game works by putting the collected items in the bag, and in between reading text, people can pick an item out of the bag and figure out what story the item could be found in.

News Flash-Have the kids come up with interesting and fun questions before Seder, and then have them interview guests at the table. Have the guests role play, as Moses, Aaron, Pharaoh, etc. and answer questions as these characters would.

Make your own Plagues- This is something that will definitely get the younger children involved. Take paper bags and fill them with peeled grapes to represent boils- when a person puts their hand inside, they will have to guess which of the Ten Plagues they are feeling. Another good one is to place plastic bugs in a bag to represent vermin. The ideas are endless, and preparing the bags is a good way to get kids talking about the meaning behind Passover.

Illustrate the Stories- Cover your table with a large piece of construction paper, and have children draw pictures to illustrate the story of the Exodus during the telling of the story.

Be Modern & Relevant- During the telling of Maggid, go around the table and have each person name one thing that they would have brought with them as slaves hurrying out of Egypt. Discuss who the Four Children would be in modern times, or which of the Four Children each of you would be. Share personal stories of freedom, and sing contemporary freedom songs.

Be Creative- Use ideas and traditions from generations before, mixed with modern ideas to create a truly unforgettable Seder.

  1. Valentine’s Day- This is on February 14th, every year, and is a day dedicated to love and romance. If you have a special someone in the States, be sure to send some Red Roses their way to show how much you care.
